Associate Spotlight: Year in Review

2017 was a busy year here in Amherst. From our overnight guests who are in town visiting students at one of the Five Colleges, to our couples who start their lives together as newlyweds, to our patrons dining in 30Boltwood, our associates ensure each and every person that passes through our doors is taken care of. Not only do we recognize the hard work of our team each quarter, but we like to highlight those individuals who’ve really stood out throughout the year.

Associate of the Quarter

We use a quote by Swami Sivananda to typify the qualities we look for in an Associate of the Quarter: “Put your heart, mind, and soul into even the smallest acts. This is the secret of success.” Our Associate of the 4th Quarter truly takes this statement to heart and uses it to guide both his guest and peer interactions. This associate is frequently recognized by name on guest surveys and online reviews. He sees every interaction as an opportunity to enhance the guest experience and earn the guest’s business for life. He approaches peer requests with the same enthusiasm and willingness to help as he does guest requests. “No” is not a part of his vocabulary, but rather, finds a way to say “yes.” Our Associate of the fourth quarter is Edward Williams-Townsend, Houseperson.

Associate of the Year

Dependable. Industrious. Inquisitive. Tenacious. Committed. Team-oriented. These are just a few of the adjectives commonly used to describe our Associate of the Year. This associate embodies our Core Values and uses her WITs every day to not only improve the guest experience but to also improve the team’s experience. Our AOY is held in such high regard by her peers that she was nominated for Associate of the Quarter within her first 90 days of employment. She is the consummate hospitality professional. She truly enjoys people and it shows in the way she interacts with everyone – treating team members and guests in the same hospitable manner. She can always be counted upon to support the team and it is with sincere pleasure to announce Daniela Aniceto, Banquets Server as our Associate of the Year.

MVP

The Inn has had a tradition of recognizing a manager who has demonstrated a pattern of contributing positively to our business, positioning us for future success. The winner is someone who uses his or her skills for the benefit of the team. What many could have viewed as a daunting, even insurmountable challenge, our MVP, instead, saw an opportunity. Not one to be bested by circumstances, this year’s MVP dug in and uncovered new markets and clients to close the revenue gap and fix pace. All the while, still giving of her time to train and write articles for our newsletter. She has taken the initiative to spearhead our social media efforts and has made great progress with our online presence and image. So much so, that her efforts were instrumental in the Inn being nominated for Historic Hotels of America Best Social Media. Please join me in congratulating Amanda Long, Catering Sales Manager, on this deserving honor.
