Meet Me at the Amherst Farmer’s Market

While it’s said that “Spring showers bring May flowers”, in Amherst, Spring marks the opening of the annual Farmers’ Market. A tried and true tradition since its inception in 1973, the Amherst Farmers’ Market connects local vendors with the community. The market is a repository of locally grown fruits and vegetables and provides an opportunity for area farmers to showcase the abundance of the valley’s natural resources.

The market isn’t just a venue for farmers. Vendors run the gamut from bakeries to wineries and everything in between. Grab a loaf from Bread Euphoria as you stroll the merchant stalls. Sample local honey from Round Hill Orchard or savor the sweetness of maple syrup from Hamilton Orchards. See Old Friends Farms for certified-organic pasture-raised eggs and make a stop for a variety of cow’s milk cheeses at Chase Hill Farm. As your excursion winds down, remember to pick-up a hanging basket or hardy field-dug perennial at Hilltop Farm and Chicken Feather Farm. What a great way to spend a day with friends and buy from neighbors!

In a nod to Amherst’s agrarian roots, Inn on Boltwood offers a Farmers’ Market package. The experience includes a two-night stay at the Inn, breakfast for two and a personal shopping excursion with Chef Michael Adams to the Amherst Farmers’ Market. With guidance from Chef Adams, you will hand-select ingredients that the Chef will transform into a custom lunch, curated exclusively for you. The package is available July-August.

The Amherst Farmer’s Market is open every Saturday through November 17th, rain or shine, between the hours of 8am-1:30 pm. It is located in the Spring Street Parking Lot and Boltwood Avenue in downtown Amherst.
